Whenever I go into My Documents, an alert comes up telling me to download free anti-trojan software, but I think that would be a trap, tricking me into downloading more viruses. What can I do to get rid of this?

This is smitfraud, see Wiki for a destription; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smitfraud

It tries to scare you into installing rouge security programs, most of which are viruses/spyware themselfs. There are specialist programs to remove this type of infection, which I think you should try first.

Run Smitfraudfix tool here; http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

Follow the instructions and it should remove the problem.

If not, you will need to run an antivirus program and multiple antispyware programs. I highly recommend SUPERAntiSpyware which is very good at removing these types of infection. http://www.superantispyware.com/

Also google for A-Squared free edition and Spybot search and destroy.

Run all of those programs in safe mode if you can; http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Good luck.
