well, one thing is that people who were against the war were using the same phraseology, "IT'S NOT OUR WAR!"

wwii involved fighting against fascist national socialists, while the war in vietnam involved fighting against socialists, while both technically socialists, i don't think there is any more in common than phraseology.

in both wars (IMHO), the US government said it cared about the people of the countries, but it was just an excuse. they were both wars of world dominance, albeit on different scales. anyone who tells you the US was in wwii to save the jews is (sadly) mistaken. if we were in vietnam to save the people from anything but communism it has escaped my notice.

lesson--- the rhetoric of war doesn't change, the US is a selfish bastard, and some anti-war protesters feel that war is never justified.

note--- the cold war, that is the war against communism, was brought on BY the outcome of wwii. wwii had nothing to do with fighting communism, if you recall were were on the same side as russia.

note--- the us was not brought into EITHER war by a european country. pearl harbor (JAPAN) and the us brought itself into vietnam by putting a boat there and pretending like the vietnamese blew it up. which probably that war was about china, which isn't european anyways. SIGH...

There is really no comparison at all. During World War II the U.S. was combating predatory nations who were encroaching on American allies and in one instance on America itself. Vietnam was strictly a civil war. Some people might suggest North Vietnam's involvement with the insurgency in the south could be likened to that of Imperial Japan colonizing soverign pacific nations, but its a stretch. Vietnam was only suppose to be divided for about two year according to the Geneva convention, and would be reunited via national elections. After the elections were sabotaged was when the North began heavy infiltration into the South. It was simply a war to reunite the country, which doesn't really apply to any scenarios during WWII.

Whole different thing. They are not comparable except the fact that we were against any type of communism.
