I am working in a position that was left because the last Admin Assistant left because she was getting married. Do married women leave their jobs often? Why is the phrase "She left because she was getting married" suficiant? Just curious. Thanks!

Um, I've never heard that except when women are actually.....going to their weddings.....LOL

To quit your job because you got married though, that seems entirely pointless!

Yes, there are some that just don't want to work. Not all, though. My sister is a stay at home mom because she can be. Her husband is able to support both of them very well, and she is able to take care of the house and kids without having to worry about work.

As far as the women who don't have kids ... well, maybe they married a man who can take care of them, so they decide to quit the jobs they hate and go to school, or look for something they actually want to do for a living. I do have to say that if I didn't have to worry about money, I would not be at a job I hated just because it paid well, I would be doing something I loved.

Some couples still believe that the man should take care of the wife, so the wife leaves her job... some woman WANT their man to take care of them... some are just lazy... or some really want to leave their job for a new one and use marriage as an excuse. I'm married and I still work full time 40-50 hrs a week... HAPPILY. I don't want to have to depend on my husband, and he shouldn't be the only one contributing to our household. That's just my opinion, right or wrong.

I always encouraged my wife to do what makes her fill complete.
Been married for 34 yrs.
she started as a file Clark and now is a director over 200 people and at the same job for 35 years.
I am very proud of her and love her.

I left my job when I first got married because my husband told me that he would rather be the one working...he is very southern and belives the woman should stay home and take care of the home...but...if i want to get a job he doesnt hold me back..its all in what ppl's beliefs are.

Not all women leave their jobs when they get married. I left mine because my then husband was transfered (military), had he lived where I was working I would have stayed working in that job.

this doesn't happen like it used to. many years ago, it was expected for a woman to stop working when she married. it's just the way things were. in this case though, the couple may be moving or she may have found anther position or, perhaps, they do have an old fashioned way of looking at things and she quit simply b/c of marriage.

Some people have husbands who want them to stop working and be at home moms/wives. My sister is dating a doctor and he'd rather she quit working.

My mom was a stay at home at my dad's request. Her job: going to the gym twice a day. She won Ms. West Coast in a bodybuilding contest AFTER three kids...go momma!

Hmm NOT ALL WOMEN DO THAT>

I would venture that its most likely this one person left her job because she wanted to & didn't want to tell her boss the real reason!!

Nothing wrong with that.

life goes on.

I suggest you let it go. & If you figure out the same reason she left, then you just be the bigger person here & don't mention it.

If u do, maybe it will be (eventually) the same reason YOU Leave...

It is becoming less and less common to leave jobs because of marriage. However, it is usually because the woman wants to be a home maker and stay at home mom.

There isn't much respect for this life style by some, but those who have done it know that it is a lot of work and worth it!

ps
people can leave jobs for any reason they want as long as they give the amount of warning recquired!
