Chris has a very good answer.

BUT, Viruses cannot do this sort of thing. Viruses are just Malicious and Unwanted software that can configure settings on the computer.

The behavior your describing seems to be more of a question along the Spyware/Hacking/Trojan Horse Ally.

I would first take Chris's advice and installing one of the BEST AntiViruses on the Freeware Market, Avira AntiVir.

In addition, I'm going to suggest installing a GREAT Firewall, Called Comodo Firewall. This will stop the hacker, or the person on the other hand of the Malware from controling your "Mate's" computer.

The link to download Comodo Firewall is: http://www.comodo.com

Go to Download Programs, and you'll see a whole bunch. You can also download BOClean while your there. It's another nifty malware program that happens to be very good!

Now, that you are secuured we need to get rid of the spyware.

Download a great program that is sponsered by Google! Google offers in its "Google Packs" a great Starters Edition of an amazing piece of software called Spyware Doctor!

Download link: No Link, just use this method:

1) Go to http://www.google.com
2) Search "Google Pack"
3) Go into the frame where it asks you which programs you want to download.
4) Download Norton (If you want, BUT if you already downloaded Avira DON't!) and Spyware Doctor.
5) Install all things, ignore the Google Desktop thing- you can uninstall it later.

Have it scan and remove anything it finds.

Hope I helped and Happy Holidays!

Mike

Tell her to install a good antivirus, such as Avira AntiVir PE Classic, which is competely free and very good.

You can download it here; http://www.free-av.com/

Do a full scan and delete all infections. She should also run some antispyware scanners like SUPERAntiSpyware, Spybot search and destroy and A-Squared free.

Google those programs to find reviews and download links.

Good luck.
