UG 4 years, med school 4 years, internship 1 year, surgery residency 3-5 years depending on the type. The military is desperate for doctors--you could go in after UG, do the med school then do your "time" (I think year for year) in the military (your residency would be in military hospitals anywhere in the world, but could include combat zones depending on the situation at the time).

College is 4 years, then med school 4 years, then surgical residency 2 years (I think). Yes it's a long time, but you have to do something for those ten years. What else would you do? And would you be satisfied doing anything else?

4 years undrgrad, 4 years medical school, 3 or 4 years residency. Then fellowship if you decide to specialize. Atleast 12 years.
