I agree. Others have used that term, but the Green Bay Packers are owned by thousands of citizens instead of a single owner. They operate in the smallest NFL market and have been very successful over a very long period of time.
Right now they have America's favorite football player in Brett Favre. How can it be anyone else?

Why dose everyone want to take the name away from the Cowboys? The Cowboys already got this name and the other teams need to think of something else. The Cowboys have a better record now than they've ever had in franchise history, even with the 5 Superbowl teams, but regardless of the record you can't take the tittle. And the only history the packer have had was a few glory years way back when and other than that they've been the team the other teams look to so they can make their stats look better.

I'm an American and my team is the Broncos.
Not the Cowboys, Pats, Packers, etc.
I might say that all 32 NFL teams are Americas teams.
EDIT: after reading more of the above answers, it seems to me that some people think that the team with the best record should be deemed "America's Team". That theory would give us a new "America's Team" every year. I don't know about you all....but I f*ing hate bandwaggoners.

Yes its true that the Dallas Cowboys have in the past were coined "America's Team", and yes who would have ever thought an aging Brett Farve and the 'Pack' would be playing the type of ball they have played all season...almost 'perfect'!,....but as I write this, there is a team that is perfect, the New England Patriots! Oh what, you don't think that any player or team in any sport can not lose in a single season without a little luck....impossible!
The fact of the matter is, the Pats have played themselves in a position to make a little luck, worth a whole helluva lot!
In this case a perfect season.
Look at what they have done. They beat the Cowboys who have only one loss......they beat the Colts who only have two...and they beat the Packers that only have two losses! Now you tell me what team has ever beaten three teams with such good records??? They have players on their teams who have taken pay cuts to play with Brady and Belicheck. It will be quite some time for a team to go undefeated in the NFL, needing to win more games than the '72 'phins. How can you not in some way, I don't care who you are a fan of, not root that this team goes undefeated?
Because in my sense, if there ever was a team that deserved to go undefeated, its this one! Its one thing for a team to play well enough to win three 'bowls in 5 years. But to get even better and dedicate yourself enough to play for a perfect season........whew!!!
Now thats American....not settling for less.

Mayb in winsconsin but right now the best team in football is the patriots, dallas already has the title they have done a lot over the years to get there and the patriots right now are on a completely different level, I think it would be more correct to say that the packers are the people's team since they are not owned by one single individual or mega corporation.

If you look at the records for all time, Dallas has the most Division Championships, most Conference Championships, they have the most Superbowl appearances, and are in a 3 way tie for most Superbowl wins in history. I also just found out that if Dallas wins out, then they become the franchise with the highest win percentage in the history of the NFL. The Cowboys franchise was also voted the most successful sports franchise in the world by Forbes magazine. And since Dallas has owned that label since the 70's it belongs to them. And until the Cowboys decide they don't want to be called that, then they will always be labeled America's team. This is not for someone to decide.

No team is America's team. Not once has an NFL team represented the United States of America in an international competition and no NFL team can claim a majority of American citizens as it's fans. Thus, no team is America's team and laying claim to that title is the ultimate in arrogance.
Go ahead and give me more thumbs down, but no one can argue against the facts that I stated and any team claiming to be America's Team is nothing more than a self appointed title.
