How did people speak in the early 1800s?

Are there are sources of language or slang used in the 1800s--in particular, the war of 1812, that are on the internet? I've searched around and couldn't find any.

They spoke more formally. Not too much slang. Especially in the upper classes. There were a lot of immigrants coming into this country so they were having to learn English.
