i came to pick up my 4 month old, she has a 20 year old honors college student as a babysitter. shes always so happy and laughing. today i came and she was so happy and laughing and looking at the babysitter, not me. then when i went and picked her up she cried SO hard like she was in pain! she kept looking back at the babysitter while i was trying to soothe her. what does this mean?

The 20 year old is far better than any other older babysitter I've had. The 20 year old has a baby herself! She's mature, responsible, and my baby just adores her, as do I. She's a hero, and thank you everybody, you made me realize what a great choice I made in trusting her. They've clearly bonded and I am so very happy that I've found someone.

She likes the babysitter more than you.

The baby sitter spends the whole day laughing, playing, feeding, holding, and loving YOUR child.
Your baby doesn't not realize that you are her mother.

If you want to have that kind of bond with your baby you have to put the time in.

Your daughter is very attached to her sitter, it is nothing bad. I actually prefer it that way because I know they are treated well. My kids never want to leave the babysitter because they have so much fun, but I just make some fun activities to do so they want to leave, like go somewhere special or play a game together. At that age it is difficult but it will get easier for both of you soon.

don't stress it. I am a nanny and this happened to my sister. i am my nephews nanny K so this is what happened my sister and i where leaving to go to the store or something and well i said bye to my nephew and well he got mad and started to cry my sister was some what upset but in the end he knows who is mom is the sitter is with your child all day just like i am with my nephew your child knows who mom is and he will grow out of it
you could try something new when you pick your child up
if your child is on the floor get down a play try to make your child laugh and even if the babysitter is holding your child play peek a boo try it and see what happens you never know
and yes it will be hard
good luck to you

it happened once

it means nothing

when its a pattern, re-post

plus, think of it as if she was playing with a toy, and you just took it away, she would be sad. Its the transitioning of events as much as the event itself.

all these posts about her loving the sitter more are ridiculous, you didnt even post how much or how long you she was with this babysitter

She's attached to her babysitter. It's totally normal for her to react this way. This girl takes care of her during the day, and you're taking her away. My son would cry sometimes when I would pick him up from the sitter.

It means she spends more time with the babysitter than with you and probably prefers to be with her. It is not that you are a bad mother, and it will pass, but she probably feels more comfortable with her right now.

i'm so sorry! i know how bad it hurts to see your baby crying for someone else over you but i dont really know what you can do about it. you need a babysitter and no matter what she is bound to get attached to whoever is watching her so i guess its better that she likes the person she is with. i know its not that they like the sitter over you but i guess its just the separation and being taken from someone that scares them because they dont realize yet that they are going home to their mom. when she gets old enough to realize that, it will get better.

Sounds like she has become aclimated to the sitter. She probably spends more 'awake time' with the sitter.......the 8 hours during the day while only a couple hours w/ mom before bed time. Maybe you could try more one on one awake time with the baby.......

no other opinions......sorry

Well...it means your daughter has formed a bond with her babysitter. That she is attached to her and loves her. If you dont like it then stay with your baby yourself....or be glad the baby has a lovely sitter.

It may mean she has formed an attachment to the babysitter.

The baby is becoming attached to the sitter. Nothing wrong on your part. It's simply because of the time they're spending together...
