Brandweek, June 26, 2000
ATLANTA--Sprite is readying for the second TV spot in the brand's latest iteration of a summer Hip Hop celebrity themed ad campaign. Marking the third such effort by Sprite, the "What are you thinkin'?" episodic campaign, via Burrell, Chicago, features Beanie Sigel, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch and Lord Finesse in five 30-second ads
The pitch emphasizes the idea of succeeding by being true to yourself and maintains Sprite's ongoing "Obey your thirst" tagline. The culminating ad will run in August and connect the four previous spots.
See since way back when its been Sprite...
used to be sorta Dr Pepper with the LL commercials with Run DMC I think....
then since Lil Penny days...
Sprite has become hood tested...ghetto approved.

particular it fairly is fantastically lots the appropriate comparable. each physique helps 80s-90s hip hop, and the mainstream is appeared down upon... particularly reason it fairly is rubbish. As for the question, i like an excellent volume of rock besides and it follows an identical mentality, in many cases classic stuff. Jimi Hendrix adventure, Led Zeppelin, and Ten Years After being my commonly used bands.

I think sprite is losing it's appeal to people, so they decided to market it to hip hop, since hip hop is becoming more popular

Corporations using hip-hop as their gimmick... again
The name Sprite comes from the word sprightly, which means lively. I guess they thought, hip-hop was lively.

Criss Cross. Remember the commercial they put out back in the day?
LL did the Gap commercial "Fall into the Gap..."
Dr. Pepper was always performed with country music.

It was probably decided by some ad exec because hip hop is commercially successful. But you must admit that (1) the commercials are done by black guys, (2) the only actual "music" is produced by drum machines and other devices, not by musicians, and (3) they say "Yo" a lot. Sounds like hip hop to me.
