Out of the folliwng, who do you believe to be the greatest influence on MacBeth's downfall: the weird sisters (the witches), Lady MacBeth, or MacBeth himself? Please give a couple of brief reasons for why you think this. Thank you.

MacBeth himself.
His ambition ultimately ruined him in mind, body and soul.

Definitely Macbeth himself. The witches plant a seed in soil they know is fertile, and Lady M. merely encourages him in what she senses he already wants to do. He does his worst deeds after he shuts his wife out of his confidence, and when he goes back to the witches, their response when they sense his approach is "[S]omething wicked this way comes"--not only do THEY now perceive HIM as wicked, but he's "someTHING,' not "someONE. All they had to do was point him in a certain direction, and he went willingly down it himself, committing worse and worse crimes for weaker and weaker reasons.

Macbeth himself.
He knew that the people around him could not be trusted.
However, he didn't want that to be true, so he left himself vulnerable in hopes that others would not take advantage of his vulnerability. He didnt want to admit, or face the fact that the people he loved were inherently dishonest, and that men in general were inherently dishonest. He hoped that if he gambled on his own well-being, it would be enough to force those around him to be better people, but in the end they betrayed him. He knew that they might, and didnt want to live in a world where people would be so deceptive. So, he gambled, knowing that no matter what the outcome, he would not be surrounded by dishonest people anymore, either because they would prove to be honest, or because he would be dead.

Lady MacBeth, she had more brains, ambition and ruthlessness - MacBeth only thought he was, and he was a coward.

i would have to say the witches. Because with the visions they gave like the the bloody child (no man born of woman can harm you) and the kid with the branch (you will be ok until the trees move to your castle) gave him a false since of security and this is what led to his downfall.

Being overconfident. He thought that nobody could defeat him since that is what the witches seemed to say.

Well if he wasn't sort of weak minded and insecure, then nobody could've had an influence on him could they?
