How much do paintings or photographs cost at a student art gallery? - an estimate of course I know it varies. I'm interested in buying some pieces but it is closed this week b/c of bad weather so I was hoping to get an idea of the prices before I decide that's the way I want to go.

Usually? Between 5 and 500.

I have bought a piece of an installation (yes, it was cut from the wall) in Sweden for $5 and a painting in Holland for $300. I have seen paintings for $5000 but they did not sell well :)

You kinda have to 'feel' your way through this. If appropriate to your view on money you may ask yourself: "What makes me more happy, $500 in my wallet or this painting on my wall?"

Chicago Art Institute students recently had an art sale. I saw paintings from $100-$1,000. There was some sculptures from $30 - ?. I didn't see everything though, I'm sure some were more than a grand. Keep in mind that they have to kick a percent of the sale to the school, so they don't get the full purchase price. Plus some of them have student loans.
