Hi i am between a black macbook, a dell inspiron 1420 or a dell xps m1330. It is for a college student and I dont mind if I dont play games or not. What do you recommend from past experiences? Please take into account mobility such as weight size and battery life and performance.

Or,
If you have any other suggestions of good laptops?

Thanks!!!!

I have the inspiron and it is heavy as hell, but the machine it self is incredibly fast and reliable. If your looking to carry the laptop to school everyday then I recommend the xps for it is lighter and slimmer, as for internal stuff. I suggest you customize it with a Core 2 duo T7250 (2.00Ghz+), 2gb ram and whatever graphics card dell offers with that laptop. Good luck and I hope you find your laptop =D.

How important to you is the data on the laptop?

Ask Apple or Dell if they have tried this test:

and will the data still be good afterwards?

While not many people drive into brick walls while using their laptop, a lot of people drop them and abuse them, collage students are the worst for this.

Do they want a system where their final paper gets destroyed when the laptop gets knocked off the table? Or do they want a system where, even if the laptop gets trashed, you can pull the hard drive, put it in an replacement system and everything is still there?

The hardware can be insured and replaced. Try talking to your insurance broker about getting the data covered too, he needs a good laugh.

Id go with a inspiron over a xps if you dont want gaming. Macbooks are awesome but pretty pricey. The Macbook is definately the lighest and most mobile although.

Get the MacBook.
It's the best. May cost more, but it's definitely worth it. I may sound like one of those Apple freaks, who hate Windows. I guess I am that, since I got my iMac, 2 yrs ago. Now I have a MacBook Pro.

Wonderful!
