If so, I have another question. Our house was sprayed for ants and roaches. The exterminator said there is no risk to me (I am pregnant) because the spray he uses is odorless and harmless to pets and children. He said the only way it might be harmful was if I licked it up off the floor.

I need someone to tell me if this is true.

My uncle used to be, and I know alot about it. Yeah it's most likely true if he told you that. I don't know exactly what he sprayed, but there's always a risk.

What you have been told is only partly true and depends on the type of insecticide that was used, its strength and application. You should have been given a report describing all three along with a product safety sheet with full details of the manufacturing company plus other health and safety details. If you did not get these the pest control company can be in breach of law.
All insecticides are a danger if not used correctly and in accordance with the law. In the case of most application types it would be expected that you vacate the property until the chemicals had settled down into the fabric of the building and its furnishings etc... If you did this you will be okay. Exposure rates for humans is I believe tested for up to 25 years, and with the exception of crop sprayers there has been little evidence of a contribution to poor health. If however you start to get itchy skin or a burning sensation wash yuorself and the offending item - I have to do this on occasion and it is not too much to worry about.
Pets are at risk, especially cats as they can die from just drinking a few teaspoons of some insecticides so always ensure surfaces are dry enough before allowing re-entry.
Appart from all the above you will be fine!
