During the depression, prohibition....particularly in the 40's and 50's there was a government based program designed to send out as much propaganda as possible about how evil drugs were.
Ever heard of the movie "Reefer Madness"?

Anyway- marijuana was included in this propaganda.... which was very much like the same sort of stuff sent out during the Cold War- paranoia based ficticious facts designed to scare people into staying away from drugs.

Didn't work did it?

The bottom line is that marijuana is NOT physically addictive... in fact there are many health benefits to using it.
The only reason why it became illegal in the first place is because Federal Laws were in-acted because the illegal immigrants were using it and so were the ****** in the jazz clubs in New Orleans and other southern states.

You're right- people shouldn't point fingers or make judgements with out all the facts. Marijuana is not illegal because it's bad for you - it's illegal because of racism.

As a Non-Pot Smoker I fully support the legalization of marijuana. First of all, when was the last time someone OD on pot? Think about it. A person can take to many Tylenol and it can be fatal and the same can be said for most over the counter drugs. Weed is all natural and I can't think of any cases where it was the sole killer of a person. In addition, I think that all Non-Pot Smokers should support legalizing it. I support it due to the fact that it has the potential to bring CA out of debt. With all the pot smoking that happens in California we would be back in the black within months!

Government propaganda films, The big lie. It is just fact that Pot is the least invasive of all drugs. there is not one recorded death that has been caused by MJ. It is not addictive. It doesn't destroy the liver like booze.
You are right!

Stenobra, You said it yourself. Low inpulse control. If it wasn't pot it would be booze or something else.

Tillylu, that is a reasoned response based on good data. good for you. All I can say is that I am sorry your family has had bad experiences. But I know many people that have upper level positions in many industries that continue to smoke pot and thrive. Compared to the Alcohol problem, Pot is nothing.

Bread, They can warn people b/c they are the wise enough people that learn from wisdom/information.

I wish I had been one of them people when I was younger then I wouldn't have to had gone through all the heartache and pain I am still coming through.

Bread, drug abuse is dangerous. Pot/weed at the time I was growing up was sold at a more natural state, now for reasons of greed/money they are mixing it with more addictive chemicals so people can get hook faster and they can get more money out of them.

Bread, I have a son that is now in jail and his life is all messed up b/c he is so addicted to alcohol and these street drug pot/weed.

Please take heed to wisdom and leave Drugs alone
there's a beautiful life out there that can be lived happily if only you learn how to seek it and live it.

Studies are just what they are studies and all is not proven
but you can open your eyes and see the destuctional trail of lives being destroyed by drugs it all starts out cool, and fun but its end is tradegy . To be warned is to be forearmed.

1. I tried it, I'd rather read a good book.
2. Not a doctor, but I can read.
3. I've done my research, and watched someone I loved go down the tubes with too much pot.

He quit his job so he could sit around and smoke all day. Then he started having health problems due to his weight gain, inactivity, bad eating habits (munchies). The precriptions he got combined badly, and he kept on going downhill.

Now he is tens of thousands of dollars in debt from refusing to work and living off of credit cards. He's lost his home, his family, his friends. But he says it is OK, all he needs to make him happy is his pot. Oh, yeah, and all the stuff he buys with his low impulse control.

I'm a non pot smoker, and I have never tried it. However, I am an ex- nurse and I am married to a doctor.
I have seen my son's friend develop acute schizophrenia due to heavy use of marijuana. I have seen my son, who was using pot quite heavily, lose motivation for a promising career in football and drop out of school at 15, for a life on the criminal fringe of society.
I have seen my daughter, who was using pot only moderately, drop out of university and lose interest in animals and her career in animal care, and opt for a dead end job.

That's why I think it is bad. My other children who haven't used pot have remained motivated and have continued to work towards their career goals.

Because scientific reports by researchers and doctors have studied this and told us so. Why would a person want to try something that they could become addicted to? Plus, pot stinks. I know people who smoke it and it truly disgusts me.

Some non-pot smokers HAVE tried it, you don't have to be a doctor to know it's bad for you, and lots of people know about addiction even if they don't smoke pot.

because us "non pot smokers" are not willing to try smoking and are smart enough to realize how something like that could be potentially dangerous. and do through studies know alot about addiction. i mean my brother has explained it to me, why its not bad but it can't be good if it's illegal right?
