Ok..you guys..please don't emphasize on what'll happen if the world stopped...emphasize on what'll happen if it started turning the other way(like odd storm/tide patterns, seasonal changes, it's effect on animals and other biological things..and, my personal favorite - a massive jetlag-like effect on every person in the world..)

suddenly stop spinning: assuming you mean "in 0 time": The inertia would require infinite momentum to be exercised on earth itself, so it'll not going to happen from a scientific point of view.

So let's assume you mean stop spinning over some (long) period of time. The momentum needed will be staggering and there's simply nothing to leverage on nearby (action=reaction, where are you going to put the reaction?) One solution would be to do it by ejecting mass at high speed, in the opposite direction, but even then the energy to accelerate the mass and the mass itself would need to be found on earth itself ... not trivial.
Further: the core of earth is molten. Spinning liquid in a weightless situation in vacuum has no friction to slow it down either, getting a hold of that would be very hard as well. The solid plates floating on the molten core we live on are rather fragile (like a cracked egg) and not really suited to exert a serious force on.

The circumference of the earth is 25,000 miles. You trip that distance each and every 24 hours. meaning you're vacationing at a velocity greater effective than 1000 miles consistent with hour. If the planet started spinning the different direction, it somewhat is a distinction of greater effective than 2000 miles consistent with hour. basically for assessment, terminal velocity for a guy or woman falling from an airplane without a parachute is only approximately one hundred ninety MPH. The oceans might have tsunamis - and fairly possibly, there may be land tsunamis besides, the place the soil is deep. you may pop the cork of each and every volcano on earth, triggering a "nuclear wintry climate" by using fact lots dirt is thrown into the air. no longer that it would count to human beings. it somewhat is possibly that no existence greater effective than single-cellular creatures might proceed to exist. you do no longer make plans some thing that the rest human beings might prefer to appreciate approximately, are you?

If the Earth were to revolve in the opposite way, time and gravity would not be affected, as time is measured by the presence of change. The Earth has been rotating the same direction ever since it formed. Since it was formed from swirling matter, it just kept moving in the same kind of spinning motion. As for the direction, there is no real reason the Earth has to be spinning the way it is. Several planets spin the other direction (relative to their orbital motion). If Earth were spinning the other way, we would just have sunrise in the West and sunset in the East.

Good question , I don't know what effect it would have if the planet rotated opposite to it's original rotation ,

But would we survive , if the planet suddenly was to stop , every thing on it would be thrown everywhere at a great speed , hardly any thing will survive,
as for spinning the other way , i don't think any thing would change , only the sun will rise and set the opposite sides

Just from the stop we'd all go flying into outer space. Well, we'd get burned up before we get there.

we'd probably all go flying into outer space... because the earth is spinning so fast, that if it just immediately stopped, gravity wouldn't hold us down from that.
