When I start my daughters computer all the destop icons come up but they are all frozen. Down near my startup bar it shows the hourglass thing but nothing will load(like my norton, or volume etc)I have restarted and started it in safe mode nothing is working. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be, I can't even get to the control panel or access anything on the internet. .

sounds like either you have not enough RAM, and loading will take forever, or you got a virus that is making your usage stay at 100% forever.

If the former is the case, you will know because eventually (after perhaps 10 min), your computer will fully load and settle down.

If the latter is the case, you will need to have your computer either cleaned by a professional or reformat your computer.

Possible you have a virus on the computer and it is using to much of the system resources making it really slow, even impossible to do anything.
Maybe try doing a scan for any virus's or spyware. Now, to do the scan will be the problem. You will need to find an anti virus program that will run in DOS mode if Windows will not allow you to do anything. You will need to search and try to find one. Maybe try download.com, of course this is only if you have another computer for downloading if your daughters computers isn't doing anything.
One other option is just to completely do a full format and a fresh install of Windows. I have had to do this when I had a virus and could not do anything on the computer and had no other computer around for me to download any programs to help me.

Most likely your OS (Operating System) will be crashing soon. Same thing happened to me, everything was going very slow. i waited until i had some control over the PC and managed to save the files i needed and after that i just reinstalled the OS. if it is still going slow try upgrading the memory.

It sounds like you need to re-install the OS. If you have the restore CDs this should be easy. I just hope you have all your data backed up.
