my son just turned 9 months old. He's 30 in. and nearly 23 lbs. So he's a big boy. But he does not crawl. He rocks on his hands and knees but that's it. He has trouble going from lying down to sitting up. He sits well, he pulls himself to his knees on things. He can hold onto the couch and stand and walk around the couch a little while holding on. He can feed himself, drink from a cup, looks at us, says mom and dad and waves, plays peek a boo uses his hands well. He hugs and kisses, recognizes people he knows, smiles and laughs alot. He looks for things when he drops them. Points when he wants something, recognizes music and dances to it. He babbles alot and tries to imitate animal noises. My doctor says hes slow for his age and wants him to be evaluated. I don't think there's anything wrong with him. Yes, he doesn't crawl, but lots don't. what do you guys think?

Some kids never crawl... I wouldn't worry! He sounds just fine with everything else, if not advanced...

Nothings wrong with an eval, just as long as its not too pricey.
Plus I think theres research showing that larger infants are slower at crawling - just like how its harder for me to run fast with this post-baby weight :) There is also research that says fall and winter can hinder crawling as bulkier clothes work against it.
Also consider your doc, is it a pediatrician or a family med doc. Family med docs might know have as much detailed knowledge on infants, especially if less experienced, and is basically admitting this by suggesting the eval. May be more of a statement on your doc's knowledge versus your sons milestones.

that rocking he is doing is the beginning stage of crawling. my son just started to crawl at 9 mos and now he is every where. temperment has a lot to do with it- if your baby is pretty chill, he is probably in no hurry to go. sounds like he is otherwise right on top of things. if he is not walking by 16-18 mos, then i would be worried but don't sweat the crawling thing.

Oh my god he is not slow at all your doctor is the SLOW one for not keeping up with moden day life.
I used to do this all the time, compare, my little one is one Xmas Eve. I HATE LONG ANSWERS BUT I FEEL FOR YOU AND NEED TO EXPLAIN MYSELF.
He has only just started to crawl front wards since 10 months
He mumbles mum and dad but not that clearly
He can walk about with furniture and get up really quickly and may be ready to walk soon, but who knows
He does not drink out of cup, he can but he is too lazy and I know how much he gets if i give it to him
He can eat finger food but not his own meals yet
Your Little one is doing FANTAST IC for 9 months.
Please do not compare, every child is individual, if he can do all you are stating he is well advanced.
Take care hun.

Every child develops differently, just because your child doesnt crawl at nine months doesnt mean that he is slow, it just may take longer for him to get the hang of it. A friend of mines daughter didnt start crawling until after she was a year old, she is just now trying to walk..So to each their own! He will do all of that when he is ready.

I think you should find another pediatrician! All babies develop differently and at their own pace. For a pediatrician to tell you that he is "slow" is extremely unprofessional and insensitive. Please find another pediatrician ASAP. And another thing- PLEASE try not to compare him to others his age. I know its really hard but so many mommies don't just trust their natural instincts and then end up worrying all the time if their baby is "normal", and miss out on enjoying their little ones. They grow way too fast- trust me, you will see.

Absolutely normal. 9 months is typical for a baby to crawl, but he's already walking with support. I bet you give this 3 months and he'll be right up to speed with his development. Babies differ wildly between 8-14 months!

slow??? why??? my baby is 9 months and does just about the same things. my baby does crawl, but some babies dont so why would that make him slow?
if i were you i would be angry! have him re-evaluated at another pediatrician. personally, i think your baby is normal and i cannot see why a doctor would say that ?????

i am not saying that he is slow and it does not sound like he is slow at all....he is doing alot and just cuz he cant craw yet does not mean a damn thing.......some kids dont craw at all so i dont think that i would worry about it if he is doing all that other stuff then i would say that he is just fine besides have you ever heard of 10 babies doing everything at the same age and all at the same time it does not happen so some do different things at different times so i would not worry so much about it now.....good luck

Your doctor is an idiot. Switch pediatricians!!
My good friend has two kids, both of whom never crawled. They are perfectly fine. My 14 month old didn't sit up until after she crawled.
Don't worry about him! He sounds like a hilarious, NORMAL little pudge. :)
