Some signs of a ghost are when the temperature drops suddenly or a cold spot and no where else. At times you may see something out of the corner of your eye, but when you turn to that direction, there is nothing there.
You get the feeling as if someone was there or someone is watching you, but there is no one around. You may hear voices or someone calls your name when there is no one around.
What you described is also a sign of a spirit. Orbs or fireballs can at time be spirits but no one can conclusivly say for sure that they are. Several cultures talk about them being spirits or lost souls, not knowing they have passed on or cannot pass on to the "other" side.
Some people are sensitive to the presence of spirits, other ignore it and some are not.

You said you get this feeling whenever you're alone in a home or building? Every time? If this happens every time, I kinda doubt it's paranormal in nature. Ghosts just aren't everywhere. Try this: have a simple, ordinary compass. If the needle begins to fluctuate or spin, you've got ghost! Cheaper and more reliable than an emf gauge that can get readings from any electronics around, unless you're somewhere without power. Ghosts can let you know they're around by cold spots and smells, and by draining energy from batteries, cell phones, flashlights, etc. You could try making an evp with even the recorder on your cell phone. Just ask aloud if anyone's there and would like to speak and give it a minute. Usually you don't hear anything until playing it back later; I've gotten some astonishing evp's. Hope these suggestions help you...

I think the reason we become uneasy is because by nature human beings feel better around some company. When we are alone our natural instincts take over and we become aware of the potential for danger. (it wasn't too long ago that humans were lower on the food chain, millions of years ago is still an eye-blink in evolutionary terms) before we began using tools and weapons we were a bit more stealthy and had to hide from larger predators - and we had some animal instinct left.
The occasional ghost will make your hair stand on end, usually when they manifest they are using static energy and maybe some electromagnetic force. It hasn't been proved scientifically, but most of what we can gather from the TV programs seems to suggest this.

There are no such signs apart from individual religious belief that people may have, and those beliefs will be different depending who you ask.
Feeling that you're being watched is a common sensation and neurologists/psychologists have traced the cause to an area of the brain. Nobody has ever demonstrated that they have the ability to sense they are being watched without using one of their natural senses.
As far as orbs, they never were a mystery to photographers. They already are well-explained as light reflections off small particles and there isn't a good reason to think they are paranormal in nature.

Ghosts can effect things like lights, move small things and even make smells. The first thing is to make sure your not just feeling an air draft or a strong electric field from some wiring or an appliance. Here is a link for some EMF meters you can buy.

You may also get your local power company to lend you one or check your home for free. Don't say you think you may have a ghost, they'll wright you off as a nut.

EMF ( Electro Magentic Field) sometimes if certain wiring is not covered by a man made object it can feel like your being watched. I learned this from TAPS on Ghost Hunters. Sometimes i feel like something or somebody is behind me and all my wiring in my house is covered. I turn around a lot and nothing is ever there there could be a ghost or it's just bad wiring.

There are many common signs of a ghost being near? Most of all they will let you know when they are around...and they will come most unexpectedly when you are not looking for them!
If you since something there...nine times out of ten there is something there? The energy a ghost draws from things around you, electronics, etc. that energy will is what causes your hair to stand and gives you the feeling of a presence.

I've wondered the same thing..about chills etc. But I remember one time in front of a house where I lived...it seemed like I walked through about 3 (at least) "cold spots"..then back out of them. I wasn't expecting anything like that..I was just outside. I had never noticed it happening before. I also remember several times I had "sensed" someone had been in my house..but I'd say to myself(not out loud) .."Don't be paranoid". I'd like to warn everyone right now about saying that. I found out later they had been in there...probably often.I even found signs of someone having been in there..things moved etc..but I'd say"Don't..be paranoid" again. How I wish I had paid attention to those things. One time I even left a tape recorder running to see if anyone came in...and guess what..I didn't listened to it..because I thought I was being paranoid or over reacting. One of the (many) things they did was unhook my ceiling "tiles" (whatever they're called) and they all came down at one time. (no...it wasn't an accident) I just happened to take my dogs outside at the time it happened. Yes, I eventually had to move.(.BTW...I'm not talking about ghosts doing that...it was real people..in their bodies. )

Yes, every time someone feels uneasy when he/she is alone it's because a ghost is present. There is no other possible explanation. I don't know why those TAPS guys bother with all that expensive equipment. All a guy has to do is to stand in a room alone. If he feels uneasy then there's a ghost present. Case closed.

From personal experience I have found to trust my gut instinct about what I feel. Depending on the nature of the ghost the feelings I get can change....
Some of the signs that I have encountered are:
getting a cold feeling when I walk into a certain room....
the hairs on my arms and neck stand up...
certain smells that cannot be accounted for...(ex) roses, sulfur,
the feeling of being watched
feeling a presence when you can't see anyone
They come to each of us in their own way and each of us receive their signs in our own way.
