How do bacteria cells function without a nucleus?

Well.. the nucleus is basically where the DNA and genetic information is for Eurkaryotic cells. In Prokaryotic cells, the DNA is actually in the cytoplasm, so they don't need the nucleus (DNA replication, transcription, translation, etc. all take place in the cytoplasm)

they have a nucleoid. that's all they really need to proceed with binary fission.
