I would recommend figuring out which breed of dog youlike, and then find a rescue group. A lady I know who used tolive in that area works with a greyhound rescue group, but there are probably numerous different rescue groups available.

Try the city pound first, please. It is across the street from the zoo. You could save the life of an animal.
The Animal Defense League on Nacogdoches is a no-kill facility and it is always on my list of charities.
