get bags for life- they'll swap them if they split, but they do last for a while, and you can fit heaps in just one bag.

Irarely pick up plastic bags, as even before the green movement objected to them, I prefered my cloth bags and backpack.
However the best bag for breaking down in the enviroment seems to be Tescos, a friend brought me some videos and CDs in one, I left them in it a few months, when I tried lifting the bag it had already began to break down and was falling apart in my hands.
The best plastic bags I have seen in any shop are those at Farm Foods a freezer food shop. Their bags are big, but not long enough to touch the ground when my arm carrying it is down to my side, they are strong enough to use many times with heavy shopping in. If they were just used for shopping they could last years.

Well supermarkets like iceland, morrisons and farmfoods have the best carrier bags, however you can buy good 'bag for life' bags from tesco, marks and spencer and asda too(i think). but i really think they should ban plastic carrier bags, go ike America. brown paper bags. i mean gota face it, these plastic carrier bags are doing no good for the environment.

Waitrose are the best freebie ones, but actually Lidl carrier bags are the absolute strongest (not counting those "bag for life" ones, which are obviously the best) but you do have to pay for the bags in Lidl.

they all seem to have opted for that see-through shite stuff haven't they? i think it's a bid to get us to buy stheir stronger bag-for-life ones so that we dont waste them. how many times have you thought before you leave the house to take a couple of bags with you?
Me? Never, i always forget.
So in answer to your question, ALDI.
They still provide the thick plastic but you have to pay for them.

I don't know because I use re-usable bags all the time or my really funky cow print shopping trolley. Buy some re-usable bags & you won't have a problem.
