If my wife and I make a combined salary in the low 100k range ... Does that make me middle class... or upper middle class?

I just want to know which way I need to vote this November and it seems as though how much you make has to dictate that ... {sarcasm intended}

£100k in the UK is a good living. You would be very comfortable unless you live in London in which case you need to earn double because a 2 bed flat costs £1million.

$100k in the UK is about £50k and is a below avererage joint income. You would qualify for some benefits! A good mans salary would be £35 -40k and a good womans £25-30.

So I cant coment until I know where you live.

Living your life positively (you define "positive") is more important than defining your class.

$100k is a lot of income if you live in a small town where things are not expensive, but it's not a lot if you live in lower Manhattan and have to pay for childcare. I'd consider you upper-middle if you lived in an inexpensive part of the country, and do not have to work yourself to death to make your income.

I am from the UK so probably not qualified to answer your question, but we are all here cuz we have opinions...in my mind how much you earn or have in the bank has nothing to do with what 'class' you are.
In the UK you could be born into the upper realms of the class system but be brassic(broke)-have no money at all.
You could be nouveau-riche,ie,be a fottballer for instance have loads of money but have no 'class' at all.
I don't understand that what your salary is(unless you have millions) affects the way you would vote...

If you classify yourself here then you are upper-middle...

The American upper middle class is defined similarly using income, education and occupation as main indicators.In the United States, the upper middle class is defined as mostly consisting of white-collar professionals who have not only above-average personal incomes and advanced educational degrees but also a high degree of autonomy in their work, leading to higher job satisfaction. The main occupational tasks of upper middle class individuals tend to center on conceptualizing, consulting, and instruction.

I'm in the same boat, my wife and I make about $110,000 USD a year, we're in the 25% tax braket, we used to live outside NYC, there we were lower middle class and strugling, we moved last year to Pittsburgh, same money much better of, probably middle upper middle class. It really depends where you live and how you decide to spend you money. But definity middle class.

Lower economic class, consider inflation and hidden taxes (sarcasm intended)

I would say middle class. You know that the government takes all the money. I make that much, but never see it.
