Ive been collecting these, in hopes they will one day be worth lots. My husband says Im wasting my time, which I probably am, but is there something special I need to look for, like double dies, or any certain year that would be more valuable than the other years. Or just tell me Im stupid...haha

You are in the right place, You will have to excuse some of the people out there, they must need the points real bad. The 1976 bicentennial quarter, is actually a nice looking coin and a piece of coin art. When it comes to circulation strikes they minted 809,784,016 at the Philadelphia mint and 860,118,839 at the Denver mint. For collectors they minted 7,059,099 S mint proofs (S=San Francisco mint) as well as 7,000,000 S mint silver clad uncirculated coins and 4,000,000 S mint silver clad proofs. The silver and the proofs have value but the others do not due to the huge mintage. One other thing is everyone is saving them, even though one may show up in my change from time to time. For state quarters there is the extra leaf varieties of the Wisconsin quarters as well as the many doubled die varieties of the Minnesota quarters. From my reading i guess there are quite a few doubled die quarters but I do not have a list of them for I do not collect error coins. I do bet with a little research on line you can get a list and maybe photos. See if there is a error group on Yahoo groups as a started. Collecting something one likes is never foolish and I have more fun with dollar ancient Chinese coins, than I do with say a silver dollar I have that is worth $5,000. I have found over the years that the person that makes a few bucks at coin collecting, is the one that has the most books and knows more than the dealer on a certain series, without letting him know it. See if a local book store or coin dealer has the Cherry Pickers gude to rare die varieties and go have some fun and make a few bucks.

I collect them also... they aren't worth much more than .25. Any book store or your local library should have books on coin collecting. I read one last year at a Borders that was all about "making money with pocket change". It was all about searching and finding errors and selling them on Ebay for a big profit...lol
Coin collecting is fun and you may sell some coins at a profit, but those who consistently make money selling coins have been doing it for yrs and are aware of the ins & outs of what sells well.

I doubt whether it has gone up in value, since so many of them were minted. However, if is uncirculated or in excellent condition it may be worth slightly more, but not much, I recommend if in very good or better condition to save for your kids or grandkids.
