So they can use the money for programs that will benefit the country and/or try and pay off some of that massive debt.
The thinking is that the rich, though they have definitely worked hard to get and keep their money do not typically use it for things that benefit others. They aren't obligated to help others of course, but in most cases it seems that the money could help to correct problems that effect everyone. Thus, since its the governments job to protect the values and the people of this country, they take the money from the rich (that for the record, they have way to much of in the first place), and use it to improve the country, instead of the rich using it to build another swimming pool/buy another jet.

They want to raise the taxes back to what they were before Regan.
You remember that. Huge middle class, 1 working person in the house the other taking care of the children
The time when we still made stuff in the USA.
Back before Billionaires got the big tax breaks.
Honest people could make a honest living...
Why are the poor and the middle class so worried about what the Rich have to pay in taxes?

Labor is taxed at or near 35%, whereas income earned from investing is taxed at only 15%. Most wealthy individuals earn their income from investing and not from actual labor. Combine that low rate of taxation with tax shelters and the Bush tax cuts that aimed their benefits at the RICHEST 1% of Americans and you've got an income gap that is only widening. This is just one of many ways the wealthy use the government to stay rich and to get richer. The Democrats are only trying to balance the scales and get the rich off of the backs of the poor and middle class! If there is such a thing as Class Warfare, it's the Rich, Conservative, Republicans who fired the first shots when Reagan was in office. Now that Democrats are shooting back it's "warfare"?
Republicans are like a Credit Card with a high interest rate. They spend and spend and spend and then have no way to pay it back. So they just pass that debt on to the next generation.
Democrats are like a Debit Card. We only spend money we know we can afford to spend. Or we use a PAYGO (pay as you go) system to make sure our great nation doesn't fall into debt, saddling future generations with debt from our irresponsibility and ill advised tax cuts and war spending like Republicans do!

Kind of takes all the fun out of being rich, doesn't it?
I mean, isn't that the whole point of becoming rich, so you can watch the middle class support both the rich and the poor with their dis-proportionally high taxes while you decide which color Lexus would go best with your new Gucci sunglasses?

While raising taxes on the rich is a great campaign sound bite. and plays to emotions in an election year...it is just a class warfare tool used for votes...
Take the Palosi tax bill which will lower the marginal rate that 5 million working poor that currently fall under the tax threshold will now have to pay taxes... Also they want to bring back the Marriage Penalty which will cost the average middle class family $2000 a year in more taxes.
So by screaming tax the rich, which maybe has them paying 1 to 2 % of thier disposable income.. the Left diverts attention from Taxing us as a whole.

Because the rich don't need all that money. You only need so much to live. While it isn't fair, is it fair that the rich have so much money? Nope. Life isn't fair.
You live in the US with a system of government that allows you to make huge amounts of money. There is a huge debt. People who can afford to pay more should pay more.

A Day in the Life of Joe Republican
Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.
All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.
He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.
Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.
He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.
If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.
It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.
Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads.
He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.
The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.
He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.
Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

They want to raise taxes so the 'average American' will pay for everything 'they' want! They think they know best of how to spend YOUR money! Your smart enough to work for your money but your not smart enough to decide how to spend it! They want 'Government' to be your 'Big Daddy/Mommy'......... Wake up America!!! You don't want Big Government!! Handle your own money and make your own choices! Be responsible!
