this is a totaly random question...but sharks scare the living hell out of me..and i want to know what kinds of sharks are in key west, FL.

The list of shark species living in that area is almost endless. However that is not to say you are in danger. Due to the media and movies/tv the general public has a very poor and incorrect image of sharks. They think they are horrid killers and extremely dangerous, but when push comes to shove as long as you are smart about things they are no dangerous than any other wild animal.
With being smart, just use your brain when you are in the water. Do not swim alone, do not swim at dawn or dusk. Avoid swimwear with high contrasting colors or wearing objects that glitter in the water (ie jewerly). Dont swim where people are fishing or in areas where sharks tend to trive.
When push comes to shove like I said, it really is just about being smart. For example, you are not going to go on a walk through a large herd of zebra and wildabeasts with a hungry pride of lions sitting around the corner. Same goes for sharks, you are not going to go swimming with seals when white sharks are in the area.
To rest your mind a bit more... last year there were less than 100 reports of shark attacks. Attacks which include anything from a scratch to loss of limb and death. To boot in 2006 a huge total of 4 people were killed worldwide by sharks. When you look at the billions of people that venture in the waters in a single year... well when less than 100 people were injured and four killed out of all those people. I think you can see how sharks have a poor image for nothing.

bull sharks are the most dangerous sharks the 3 gentle giants are the whale shark basking shark and the megamouth shark there are 101 kinds of sharks in these oceans great whites makos blue sharks threasher sharks hellicorpion sharks hammer head sharks megalodons frilled sharks goblin sharks lemon sharks black tip reff sharks and white tip reef sharks and sand tiger sharks threasher sharks and cookie cutter sharks angle sharks and saw sharks and dog fish sharks i know all kinds of sharks cause im 15 years old my name is dylan hupp ive been study them sence i was 9 years old and i read about them and i pretect them

Well, there are BARRACUDAS and COBIAS.Thats the only Sharks I know that are in Key West. I know because when I used to live in Miami, I went to Key West all the time.

Tiger sharks ,Black tip,White tip,Hammerhead just to name a few the one you need to fear most is the tiger ,maybe its just a old wifes tale but ive heard that if you take a bar of soap w/u in the water the sharks will be repelled by the soap ,just stick the bar of soap in your swimsuit pocket
