More than likely, your labor will be faster than the last, and more painful. My SIL was recently induced, and it was about 4 hours from IV of pitocin started to baby being delivered. There is NOT a higher risk of c-section, more recent, thorough studies have squandered that theory. If you do opt to use pain meds, don't hesitate. My SIL wanted to wait because she was only at 4 cms, changed her mind 15 minutes later, and ended up delivering sans medication because by the time the anesthesiologist got to her room (about 10 minutes) she was pushing. If you need something, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!

Hi
I am currently five months along with my second child. I learned of a heart condition that I have called Sinus Tackycardia. So I have to have another C-Section.
But my best friend had all four of her kidos through induction. I know that she went in a the crack of dawn, they started poticin, this is going to cause the contrations to be stronger and longer, than if you started on your own.
You are looking at a harder pain threshold from an induction, I know my friend has had to have pain meds with all but the thrid for he came out fast!!
I was thinking that you should have something to focus on to take your mind off of the event. I would try to go with out pain meds if this is what you are hoping for, but know that any pain relief is granted from an induction.
I look foward to my new babys arrival and I am happy to have another C-Section for I am too scared to push out the baby!!
Good luck and God Bless!!

you've had pitocin before.... if you can recall that re-start, then you'll have your best indication of how it will be this time.... the only difference will be that the induction doesn't give you time to have those little light 'maybe it's labor' contractions... you'll have for sure contractions from the beginning and they'll come hard and fast, since this is baby #2.... they are NOT unbearable, just sometimes unexpected in strength and duration at first.... the labor shouldn't be longer unless baby isn't in a good postition...
congrats to you!!... have a great baby!!!....

don't worry... i have 3 kids (twins and a 23 month) with the twins i had them full term, NATURAL! (3.5 hours of labor) I mean no medication ... nothing.... with my 23 month, I was induced. It lasted 3-4 hours and I had my son. It was painful but not as bad as the twins without any meds.... so don't worry, you'll be fine... just when you're in pain, slap your husband for putting you through it... Good luck and don't worry. you'll have a beautiful and healthy baby :)

I have only one child and I was induced with her due to high blood pressure problems. I was not dialated at all, so I went there the night before my actual induction to have cervadil placed against my cervix to help thin it out and allow me to dialate. When I arrived and they hooked me up to monitors, I was already having contractions regularly every 5 to 7 minutes, but I had thought I was just feeling the baby moving. About an hour after the cervadil was inserted, I got a little crampy, but nothing major. I was able to fall asleep fine and got through night one with no issues.
6am the next morning, they checked me. I'd only opened up the size of the tip of a pinkie. They started pitocin. It didn't take but about 10 minutes for me to start getting regular contractions every 2-3 minutes. The contractions hurt, but weren't super intense. Similar to mild/moderate period cramping. I stayed in this pattern for several hours. I was offered pain meds but declined as it was bareable and I was waiting for things to hurt worse. Throughout the day, I played cards, watched tv, talked to my husband. It wasn't anything major. But everytime they checked me, I hadn't advanced any. And I hadn't dilated enough to break my water. At 5pm, they realized it wasn't going to happen that day. I was given the option to rest through the night and try induction again the next day or to have a c-section. I chose to get a 2nd day of induction.
They took me off the pitocin and did the cervadil again. The next morning at 6, I still hadn't dilated more. They did however discover that the nurse from the day before wasn't advancing my pitocin according to my chart (she was new) and they felt that had something to do with my labor not getting stronger. They started me off and within an hour, i was in REAL hard labor. It was very painful and i requested pain meds. They gave me stadol which made me have trouble carrying on a conversation and made me sleepy. I didn't mind though as I was in severe pain and the sleep was welcome. After a few hours, they were able to break my water. My labor felt much harder after they did that. They kept checking me. I finally went to 2cm, but never dilated past that.
At around 5pm, my doctor told me that he didn't feel like I was going to be able to have my baby naturally. The labor pattern I was in was strong and steady enough that I should have been dilating more, but I wasn't. Also, the baby was still sitting very high. He gave me the option to either go 4 more hours naturally to see if it happened on its own and then do a c-section or go straight in for a c-section. I chose c-section as he honestly didn't think I'd have her naturally after the 4 hours.
When they did my c-section, they discovered I have an abnormally narrow/small pelvic bone. My baby wasn't able to drop down at all, thus never putting enough pressure on my cervix for dilation. My doctor told me he didn't think it would have been possible for me to have my daughter naturally without breaking my pelvic bone. He felt pretty firmly that that was the reason induction had been so unsuccessful. My daughter was a normal size ... 7lbs6oz and only 18 1/2 inches.
So there's my induction experience. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't fun. My first day was a breeze b/c the pain was so mild. The second day felt like someone was ripping out my insides ... but the also had the pitocin VERY high and I had my water broken. It did feel mostly better after pain meds.
No matter what... you can do it though. No matter how painful or how long or how whatever, have the confidence in yourself that you'll do great no matter the circumstance. That really helped me through labor and helped me through postpartum as I developed a bad kidney infection and then an abscess.

The labor comes on full force from the beginning, and labor tends to stall out, and theres a higher risk of complications. That being said I did it pain meds free, though not by choice my epidural failed, in 12 hours naturally. Good luck! Everything will be great!
