My daughter, 17, recently had a back X-Ray and was found to have 2 extra lumbar vertebrae. Does anyone know if this could cause future back problems or if it's something that should be checked out and dealt with now? On another note we also found out recently she has no wisdom teeth!

I've never seen anyone with 7 lumbar, but I have seen 6 quite a few times. It does not usually cause back problems.

I don't know if it will cause future problems, but I do know that the normal number of lumbar vertebrae is 5, but it is not uncommon for people to have one less or up to two more.

Also, I am missing two permanent teeth, so my baby teeth are still in my mouth, because there are no permanents to push them out. Your daughter is lucky to have no wisdom teeth!

It won't cause or prevent future back problems. She'll have to exercise and stay fit just like everybody else to prevent back problems.
