This is a question you should pose to blue-shirt Jack (at least I think it was him). He really had something important to say about the Clapper--and about Chia Pets!! I'm going to look up the question and see if it was actually him who asked it...I'll be back.

The Clapper is a gadget that uses a sound-activated switch sensitive to hand clapping, to turn on and off up to two appliances that are plugged into it depending on the number of times you clap. The Clapper works with any American standard electrical outlet. A design revision known as the Clapper Plus includes a remote control function in addition to sound-based activation.

It has an audio amplifier in it. When a sound level reaches a certain level it triggers the squelch circuit and sends a signal to another circuit that is an electronic switch. This will activate the switch and the lights or device will turn on. When you make another loud noise, this will again trigger the squelch circuit and then turn off the switch.
In a way they work something like the old light color organs from the 60's when a certain frequency of sound would turn on a specific color of light. The only difference is that when the sound stopped the light went off.

umm....you plug it in.......and i believe you have to clap twice to turn it on or off........it the noise sounds like clapping.....it might turn work
