In light of the very weak calss of 2007, I opted to look up a list of artists who are currently eligible. It makes this year's class even worse. Which ones do you think should be inducted?

See the link below for a list of all eligible artists:

Pooty - the 2007 inductees are John Mellencamp, Madonna, The Dave Clark Five, The Ventures, and Leonard Cohen

市俄古人じゃない人 - I'm going to have to see pictures (naked and clothed) and a brief resume of your skills.

Dave - Keep in mind that it would be for Jimmy Page's solo work. He only had one album (that I'm aware of) and it pretty much sucked.

Master C - Trust me, I was totally crushed when Night Ranger didn't get inducted. How can you deny the mighty Jack Blades his rightful spot atop the mountain?

Darth - Your list looks a lot like mine, and I just didn't care for Outrider. It certainly wasn't good enough to warrant a nod to Page for his solo work.

Spooky - I'm considering it, but if I'm going to tempt p*ssing off the Mrs... I'm gonna have to see the goods first.

Kajagoogoo might as well be a first ballot lock.

ROFL @ 市俄古人じゃない人

Sookie - Rest assured, it was very tongue-in-cheek. :)

I don't think Guns N' Roses have been producing music long enough yet. They might get induced in a few years. As for, Metallica and Rush I'm not sure. But tbh I think Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a bit of a joke. I mean, they have inducted Madonna. She's not even rock.

Whole heap of deserving ones. Now that the RRHOF is a total, indiscriminate free-for-all, genre-wise, why isn't Ella Fitzgerald in? Hmmmmmmmm. Anyway, pushing personal feelings aside (I don't like all these acts) and making a call on true, lasting artistic impact and/or significance, my "on-merit" list (confined to 2000 onwards) would be:

Sonic Youth
The B-52's
Peter Tosh
Motörhead
XTC
Steve Earle
Swans
Hüsker Dü
Bauhaus
The Cramps
The Cure
Devo
The Fall
Afrika Bambaataa
Iggy Pop
Throbbing Gristle
Wire
Split Enz
Iron Maiden
Michael Bolton

WHAAAAAAAAAT?????

I'm kind of shocked at some of the artists who haven't made it in yet... looking at the lists gave me an eye twitch...

My vote (as usual!) goes to Siouxsie and the Banshees, with a nod to Sonic Youth, the B-52s, and 10,000 Maniacs. Joy Division, too.

And ABBA's not in yet? Granted, I would call them more pop than rock, but for sheer popularity and album sales, they were a force to be reckoned with back in the day... I'd pick them before the Village People and KC and the Sunshine Band!

The people I think deserve it:
Bad Brains
Dokken
Jimmy Page (even though I don't like him)
Robert Plant " "
Metallica
Sonic Youth
Sting
Don Henley

The ones that confuse me:
Men at Work (Down Under and Who can it Be Now will get you in?)
Kenny G (we did say Rock and Roll right?)
Falco ( For his amazing Rock Me Amedeus song, and making powdered wigs cool??wtf?)
Everything But The Girl
Violent Femmes ( I like the Blister in the Sun as much as the next gal, but seriously?)
Nena (99 red balloons right? no no no..)
Culture Club (once again, ROCK AND ROLL hall of fame)

One hit wonders, (or in some cases 2 hit wonders) should never be in the running in my book.

On a different note... I would give the first gal best answer, you know, just in case... lol.

Mike, that is the most depressing link ever. Look at some of the bands that were passed up! This really sucks. Even Night Ranger!

Anyway, my dream list:
Misfits
Descendents
The Adicts (personal Bias)
MC5
Minor Threat
(Year of the Punks!)

Maybe next year:
Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Black Flag, Iron Maiden, Huey Lewis, Ozzy, Metallica, Beastie Boys

***LOL, Maybe he is just too big for that little Hall.

Question Mark: I can't stand Joan Jett. I writhe in pain at the sound of her voice/music (to answer your question).

Lets see....
You're right it's pretty weak. The only one I'm really passionate about at all is Sonic Youth. There are other ones that will get in (Henley, and I forgot the other couple ones) and there are others that I like that aren't really Hall of Fame bands (Men at Work for instance). Sonic Youth is the only one that I'm thinking "I really hope they make it."

Bad Brains is a name that I find intriguing.

***************
That's just for the 2007 list. I'll have to dig further down and see who else is eligible.

The Marshall Tucker Band, Heart, Waylon Jennings, Page and Plant, Metallica all deserve recognition!!! But my personal fave to win is Stevie Nicks, that woman can belt out a tune like no other!!

Not on that list, and as such very overlooked :~

Mike Oldfield

From the list :~

Stevie Nicks
Dire Straits
Thin Lizzy
Robert Palmer
Joe Cocker
Nick Drake
Jethro Tull
*
There are probably others, but I'm basing my opinion on bands / artists where I know a reasonable amount of their work.

*Edit :~ I missed off Sting!

np: 'In My Own Time' ~ Family

Dear lord. Between Sting & Wham! I don't know which is worse. In fact, the only one I like from the 2007 list is the Beastie Boys, but I don't consider them "rock."

Now I'm curious to see who wins out!

In order of deservingness, IMHO

1. Metallica
2. Yes
3. Albert King
4. Dire Straits

Honorable Mention: Ted Nugent, Rush, Jeff Beck, Albert Collins

Probably some of those punk bands deserve it too (Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, etc), but I don't know them well enough to judge.
