Single make tyre rule..................?

No, not for Moto GP, that ones been laid to rest thankfully.

Pirelli have been named as the suppliers for BSB & BSS from 2008-2010.

Your thoughts please. Personally I think its a good thing for the simple reason that it will allow the top BSB runners to "Wild Card" at the home races. Something thats been lacking since 2004.

Shuggie and Proc, I agree with you that in principal for racing its a bad thing. However, I did used to enjoy seeing some of the domestic boys sticking it to the so called cream of the world. Shakey, stalker etc.

Of course, in an Ideal world there'd be no single make tyre rule for any series and it wouldn't matter. I just think that this is one plus point in a less than perfect situation.

Nik, you need to broaden your horizons. My favorite is also Moto GP, but there's terrific racing to watch all over the world. Heck I even like watching Scooter Racing!

Your right about the wild card situation.

Lets say Jonny Rea was still racing in the UK and he got a ride at brands, he would have to leave the team choice ( and paid for ) Dunlops and get some Pirelli's on.

If the tyres were rubbish it would make him look rubbish and then not get noticed by the top teams.

This is maybe a bad rider example, but you see what I mean !

I can see your point and take it on board but in principal I am not a huge fan of single make anything in top level racing. I am not sure what benefit it brings to the teams over all and the only people who win are Pirelli and the race series organisers, who no doubt are being well rewarded for the selection.

The small plus of some BSB riders being able to wild card in the home rounds of WSB is a minor thing really as they are not really going to add to that championship as a whole and the only people who will care are Brit based fans and only for those race days. After all do you care who wild cards at the Czech round or the German or the Italian ... ?

I think it detracts from any series when a control tyre is imposed and what next, single make brakes, engines, frames, bikes ... ? Don't get me wrong I am not against single make racing or things that provide for cheaper racing but at the lower levels. BSB however is meant to be the pinnacle of British based racing and the teams and suppliers should be looking to be on the top of their game in all aspects. I personally like Pirelli tyres on my road bikes but have to ask are they supplying the best product possible to the WSB and now BSB teams, if there is no competition for them or yardstick to measure against?

I probably don't know enough about this issue to produce a comment worth reading, but that doesn't usually stop me (ha!) so here goes...

While wild cards do make other race series a bit more interesting - for the locals if no one else, I too think a one make rule kind of defeats the object when it comes to top level racing.

I mean, we already have the Virgin cup (you know, the one Timmy Hill just came up from -is that what it's called??) where the bikes, tyres etc. are all the same - and as an intro to top flight racing that's a good way to sort the men from the boys, but once you're up there "Vive la difference" I say - it gives us all so many more variables to quibble over and discuss over a beer (and the net)

Hi Neilgtti. Personally I think its a bad thing. I think it will restrict the need for development. why improve what works? also I think Pirelli will lose out because there will be no need to point out the work being done by the Tyre. so lack of advertising will make them reconsider sponsorship the next yr if revenue from Tyre sales drop. lastly competition is what the whole thing is about. same arguments stand for GP as for all other sports. what next a single engine manufacturer. already exists ( not the same thing) bring on development and competition I say.

As I am not really watching either BSB nor BSS, I can't say that this is bothering me much!

Although I do know that those type of rules (about the tyres I mean) lead to drastic lack of interest in the sport. It makes it boring... And that's a bad thing!
