I think he should not have those wrinkles, no smear lipsticks, no visible scar, and have a similar Joker smile like Jack. And thicker white tone on his face. He needs more white on his face like Jack's. And The Tumbler is a piece of trash.

I think the look of the new Joker is more realistic so as to fit in more with the new movie series. I just wonder if Heath Ledger will do a good job at playing a "comical homicidal maniac".

Don't get me wrong though, I thought Jack played the Joker perfectly well. But his look was still cartoon-like, which at the time reflected the character in the comics and cartoons.

The main difference is that this new series is supposed to reflect that Batman could really exist, which means that even the Joker has to seem like he really could exist.

Burton's Batman and Nolan's Batman are very different. Nolan is plainly going for something more realist, while Burton's trademark style has always been Gothic and fantastic, with a touch of comic weirdness. Given the success of Nolan's first effort, I think we should give him some leeway, here. Jack Nicholson made a great joker (cf. his Academy Award nomination for the role), but there's no reason to think that "different" = "bad". The comics have always been multifaceted in their examination of Batman; the movies should certainly be free to do the same.

I like the look of this Joker better than the other one. Remember that the Joker's look is due to an accident and he's supposed to look freaky. Heath Ledger looks more like some of the drawings that I have seen of the Joker.

I like the new Joker. He's more menacing that the Tim Burton, comic-book (and comical) Joker. Joker is supposed to be a dangerous psychopath, not a caricature.

I think if Heath had looked exactly like Jack that I wouldn't want to see the movie just because it would make me think I would be wasting my money to see the same movie again. The fact that Heath looks different, and more like the comics, makes me wanna see it.
