I have the same problem. I am 22 and teach high school. One kid took my cell phone of my desk and called himself to get the number. I just have to be firm with them, and they are responsible for their grades. Once they see they aren't doing well in the class, they will turn it around. Try to keep them in line. I have one student who is 20 and she treats me like her little sister. I just ignore her, she doesn't do anything anyway, and she is going to fail the class (again). Best of luck to you!

You are not too young - I am 23 and this is my second year!

It does seem to help if you dress conservatively and professional, do not dress like them. I worked at a school my first year where we were allowed to wear jeans any day. Now I work at a school with a much stricter dress code and I can only wear jeans on Fridays. At the other school I blended in with the students and they did not take me seriously. Now I am dressed more professionally and they treat me with much more respect, plus I am a coach, so that helps. When students try and treat you like their buddy, make certain that you correct them on it immediately, don't go along with it. When they flort with you, turn it around (you might even need to embarass them for it). Once they realize you mean business and maybe they have been embarassed for flirting with you, maybe they will realize they need to stop.

There is one thing to remember - at this point in the year, students have gotten used to doing things (even if they are not supposed to) and it is going to be extremely difficult to change it. You may never actually get them turned around on these things this year, but you will get a fresh group nex year to start over with.

I had the same problem when I first started teaching. I was 23 and one of my students was 19. I taught Earth science at the time but now I teach Chemistry and Physics. The student never took me serious but I took control of my class and let them know that I was their teacher but had no problem with being their friend as well.

No it's not too young. I am 23 and while I had a few problems in the beginning about being taken seriously (some colleagues even thought I was a student!), it has gotten much better with time.

You have to command respect and be consistent about that. If you ignore it, it will just continue and get worse.

At least you are strict but are you firm and kind at the same time? Age doesn't matter for a teacher. As long as you teach the material you were taught to teach and you reach the students. It comes with time. I am horrible with class control. But my students like me and I am way older than you. Don't worry it takes practice, practice and more practice. I teach French and Spanish

Be impartial. Because of the small age difference, it may be easy to be buddies with a select few. Don't encourage flirting. Its hard as a younger teacher but as you put in the years and your reputation as an excellent teacher becomes apparent, they will take you more seriously

I am in the same scenario for the most part - 24 and teach 18 year olds history and psychology (AP).
Dress up and KNOW your stuff.
I embrace my youth though - I make fun of myself as a young teacher and they receive it well. I do have very well behaved students though for the most part.

Jehovah and his firstborn Son enjoyed close association for billions of years—long before the starry heavens and the earth have been created. How they must have pal yet another! (John 3:35; 14:31) This pricey Son grew to become into only like his Father. for this reason the Bible refers back to the Son as “clone of the invisible God.” (Colossians a million:15) sure, whilst a human son could heavily resemble his father in numerous techniques, this heavenly Son contemplated his Father’s traits and character.
