Yes, coward. Like in the old west guys that lost fights or backed down from fights were yeller, or yellow bellies. Yellow alone means coward or scared.

The phrase, of course, is "yellow bellied", meaning cowardly. It was commonly-used in the Old West, apparently. An example would be: "That yellow-bellied fool was talking big, but he just took off and ran when he saw the Sheriff coming".

Yellow belly means a coward, don`t know why the belly is referred to.
As in " if you won`t scrump apples your a yellow belly" meaning you are too scared of getting caught.

Lincolnshire, just for interest someone from Leicestershire is
