Congress is supposed to check and balance the executive branch always having the interests of the country in mind. However, in this administration the interests that are protected are the oil CEOs and big business overall, so the Republicans in congress are in cahoots with the executive branch, despite all efforts by congress Dems to change this.

These days, not much. The executive branch has usurped so much power that it no longer needs the judicial or legislative branches. Checks and balances are gone. The constitutional limits on presidential authority and scope of powers have been done away with. Illegally. Write your congressman.
