I think the finals are broken up into types of finals that are occuring. Many classes use the same room and cannot have finals during those hours. For example, if a room is used to teach Math and English, typically the English classes have finals first and Math have their finals last. If this weren't applied, it'd suck for some to have both Math and English finals during the same hours.

Because most classes are too short to allow for a major exam, and if they gave any more time for the exams, they would overlap with the following classes and there would not be classroom space to do them all.

In addition, many students try to work out schedules that minimize downtime, so they might have four or five classes on one day, and asking people to study for all of their exams at once is just not reasonable!

I dont know. Maybe because they dont people having to take finals back to back.
