what makes a stocking stuffer different from a present?
We've always had stocking, but never put anything in it until this year.

Stocking stuffers are small, inexpensive goodies that are placed in the stocking on Christmas Eve.. Santa is supposed to fill the stockings.. but we have it as a tradition in our home.. I fill my Husbands, my sons.. and my Moms.
Consists of things like:
Candles, Candy, Scratch Cards, Small Books, Lotions, Soaps, Fishing License, Fishing Lures, Fruit, Snacks, Gum, Toilettries like Deoderant, Toothpaste, Body Wash, Shampoo, Razors, etc.
Hope this helps! Best Wishes!

It depends on the people stuffing them. Some people stuff them with small, fun items and useful toiletries, such as Matchbox cars, razors, toothbrushes, etc.

Some people consider anything small enough to fit in the stocking a "stocking stuffer," which can be anything from a deck of cards to a piece of jewelry to an iPod!

But usually it's the first thing.

you hang the stocking up by the fireplace the night before, if you don't have a fireplace then you use a doorknob or just put it up on a hook somewhere in the house. Santa comes in the night and puts goodies in there. the elves don't have to wrap them because the stocking is like a wrapper. in the past, we've found chocolates, toys, small games, video games, flashlights, small jigsaw puzzles, and candies in there (ok, as you can see, we have a huge stocking, LOL). have fun with it

It's just a small little gift that really isn't worth wrapping but you want to give it to someone on X-mas. So you slip it into the person's stocking. It really means nothing but it's a cute practice. For me I stick pens and pencils in my grandkid's stockings. For my wife it's cute little figurines or some such.
