My nephew's woodwork class needs him to design and make a wooden toy, although he doesn't know what to choose.
What kind of toy do you think? He's 15, so it can't be EXTREMELY hard to make.

my children absolutely loved the small colourd blocks you get in a small push along trolley yuou could make the blocks colour them then put letters of the alphabet on them then make a easy push trolley for them easy to make and a great project for small kids to play with i know my kids loved them to bits and there educational hope it helps

Maybe a Christmas something, like a snowman, Santa's hat, mini sled, a Christmas socking , a gift. After you choose put at the bottom some wheels. That would be cute!

a small wooden ornament for the christmas tree. or a dradle if thats what you prefer....umm a small rocking horse, or decorative wooden balls..EASY!

He could go to a craft shop and get a pinewood derby car kit .

one of those pull along ducks on whells, all you need is a duck (or any animal) cutout shape and 4 wheels. piece o cake
