I have an Emachines 210 and have been given some 256MB PC 133 SDR/CL3.

Is this compatible, and what would happen if i was to put in into the spare slot on my pc and it was wrong?

thanks

Em

That particular computer requires memory called DDR, which is a newer, incompatible version of memory than what you listed which is SDR.

So this will not work for you.

The stick would not fit into the slot properly because it is keyed completely different than DDR. If you look at the stick, you will see two notches in the contact side.

DDR only has one notch.

Seriously doubt it's compatible. All info I can find says EMachines 210 uses DDR memory which has a completely different slot (longer) than the module you got.

Unfortunately you have been given older RAM which is not compatible with your machine and you will be unable to use it.

You can go to http://www.crucial.com and use their tool to find out what kind of RAM (memory) your computer needs. They can even test your system and tell you what you need and have in the computer (each slot).

your safer just to buy new memory.

i have got an eMachines e4036, and when i upgraded to vista i had to replace my two 512mb sticks with 2 1gb sticks and it only cost me £40 for 2gig of brand new memory so its not expensive.

Don't even try it! It's not the right type and could cause damage to your system.

It might work fine, if it is not compatible I don't think you would even be able to insert it. you can try.
