Lets figure it out. What's the league min.? Let's say (for argument's sake) it's 200,000. Now divide that by 165, the number of games per year they play and you've got $1,212.12 per game. Now count in the fact that they work 6 days a week and 10 months a year and don't get to see their families much. How much is that worth to you?
I don't think they are generally overpaid. I don't even think Arod, making $28.5 million a year, is overpaid. He is paid to do his job and, as much as I hate to admit it, he's the best at what he does. Plus if/when he breaks Aaron's/Bond's records he'll generate the interest and money that will offset most of his inflated salary. So in general, I don't think basebal players are overpaid. I think most make less per game than football and basketball players and they work more.

First off, the strike wasn't just about money, there were other issues as well, most notably rules regarding free agency. Second, divide by 162 because that's how many games are played. They do work more than that to as far as practice, spring training, and just staying in shape in the off season. Why do they make so much? Because we fill up stadiums to see them. Its a bad cycle where Arod signs a deal and tickets go up $10. We'll we're still paying to see him, so he's going to keep making more. With that said, they are over paid, I think he was making like $400 thousand per plate appearance, that's just asinine...

Because the owners have more money than brains.
They can not control their desire to have a winning team.
They were good business men and made lots of money and now they waste their money buying players who will hopefully win a championship for them.
It is their childhood egos over ruling their common sense.
All of the players are over paid for their contribution to society, but it is not their fault for making as much money as they can.

How about whatever the traffic will bear and unions. Seems to me all of those millionaires went on strike a few years back for more money.
