I find this quote most interesting. It is from a Hessian Prisoner of War.

28 December 1776 – This morning we visited General Lord Stirling, who conducted himself in a very friendly manner toward us. He received us with these words, ‘Your General von Heister treated me like a brother when I was a prisoner, and so gentlemen, you shall be treated by me in the same manner…Lord Stirling…asked if it would be our pleasure to accompany him to see General Washington...He kept four of our officers for the noon meal and the rest of us ate with Lord Stirling.
–Lt. Piel (Hessian)

Has America hardened since the founding fathers fought for independence. Is the Constitution no longer the Rule of Law. What would General Washington say about Bush's pro torture form of Government.

Holding Bush to 18th century standards is a stretch.

Right just like holding people to the 2000 BC standards of the Law of Moses.

Or to the 32AD standards of Christ

Benedict Arnold was not hanged, he moved to England, got poor and died of natural causes. (I had to set that straight.)

Wars have changed, what would George Washington do when he saw men buried alive, drug through the streets of Beirut, etc... You forget what another General said, this one was Gen. Sherman. "War is Hell" We have SERE training for a reason and that is because our enemies have escalated torture far above any practice the United States condones.

The founding fathers knew that power breeds corruption, so they made the Constitution our law. It limited the power of the federal government and gave most power to individual states. Well the federal government has been stealing power now for well over 100 years and the power is addictive. Dr. Ron Paul is running for President and if the American people cared about what the founding fathers wanted, we would elect Dr. Paul in a landslide.

Different war, different enemy. Tactics change to meet thee needs of the times we live. Holding Bush to 18th century standards is a stretch. I am unaware of any proven instances of torture committed by US troops while interrogating captive terrorists. The constitution is still in effect and the rule of law is strong.
