Some veterinarians are paid with a flat salary, some have salary plus commission, some straight commission. It depends on who you work for. (private practice, corporations, etc.)
The average new graduate now makes over $50,000 +.
Good luck. Going to veterinary schools is expensive- 8 yrs of college, just like a human Dr. Some of the out of the country schools do not have as good of a reputation as some in the states. You have to study very hard, and be very dedicated. Are you doing this for the money, or for love of animals?
You can also become a "relief vet" who fills in for vets on vacation, sick, ot otherwise.

According to the Department of Labor website, the average salary for a vet in the US is around $50,000. However, it varies by specialty and type of practice (see website link below).

If you have a heart for veterinary work, though, you should definately go into the field, regardless of the salary. We animal lovers need good vets like you!

Lets see, doctors in my area(NY) get from 70,000-upwards, so your area might start at 60,000 and up. Its good money but you should love animals of course. There are certain communities ( I think you'll be able to figure this out) that have pets of all kinds and love their pets just as everyone else does, and always have tremendous need for vets.

They can make pretty good $$, but vets have to go to school longer than human doctors!! Typically its at least 12 years. So be prepared for that!
