The train. More expensive... but a better experience and more time at home!

If you need to go home fast fast fast, you should get a train ticket, but if you don't have the money for a train ticket, go ahead and buy the ticket for a bus, because if someone in my family was dying and I wanted to get home fast, it would be better to get the bus ticket to get here as soon as possible, (the bus that you had the money for) instead of waiting a few days to collect the money to get the train ticket. Might as well...
It's just cheaper for the bus. By time you get the money for the train ticket, you could be there with just a bus ticket.

Where are you coming from/heading to.

In USA, the Amtrak from Chicago to East Lansing is cheaper than the Greyhound and faster ($69 each way vs. $95)

And of course there is the 3rd option: Discount Airline. With 2 weeks advance booking, Southwest has Tampa to Detroit for $49 each way. Greyhound is $246 roundtrip. And Amtrak is $216 each way (but that's because I'd have to take 3 trains)

If you can afford it, take the train. Bus trips can be a real drag, crowded, long lay overs. I was checking of late, and realized train trips were about the same as flying, if planned in advance.

Depends on where you are going and how you are travelling. If you are travelling alone, and also where you are from. If it's an emergency then I would recommend the train, if you are up for some sight seeing, then do the bus thing.

the train....if you're traveling anyplace where the weather's bad...it's better than traveling by bus. The expense will be worth it to get you home on time
