I'm going to an event tonight, and I'm pretty clueless when it comes to style. Here are the details:

- It's at a fancy hotel, but the invite says "semi formal".
- I'm almost 30, I figure I'll be on the younger end of attendees. Soo.. not a highschool thing or anything like that!

- I have one dress that looks like it'll work. It's a sparkly green halter dress from Torrid, bought it in the summer, has a handkerchief style layered skirt that somes to just below the knees.

Here;s the thing. The only shoes I've worn with it before (I'm shoe challenged also!)_ are strappy black chunky heels. They're painful, so I don't want to wear them anyway... but I'm assuming it being winter and all, they probably wouldn't work anyway.

I also hate pantihose.

Can I get away with wearing boots? I have a pair of black boots that lace up the front, come to just under the knee, and have a chunky heel also. I love them. Would they work with the dress? Heels, Boots, or tennis shoes are the only options!

I am so seriously not interested in buying more shoes. The heels barely get worn as it is. The dress was a serious splurge, I'm shocked it's getting a second wearing! I really don't come across many opportunities to dress up, so it doesn't make sense to invest in that.

Your dress sounds like the right length. But I would definitely go to Payless and buy the right shoes. Boots is a no-no and tennis shoes are even worse!

Go with the heels.
I understand they are more uncomfortable, but a dress that comes below the knees and boots of abou the same legnth look kind of funny.
If you must though... where it with black leggings, I saw some girl do that once and it looked pretty nice.

For the future though, ou should think about a pair of black flats. You can get a pair for 20 dollars or less, and they look really cute with just about everything.

Good luck!

boots is most likely too chunky for this, for anything with handkerchief detailing i would go with a strappy silver stiletto or even a pump.

You have to go with the heels. But you do need to expand your collection of shoes. And, sometimes, pantyhose or thigh hi stockings are going to be your best legware option.

i like the dress. sounds appropriate. but I would not do boots with it. that is too casual and too daytime. you definately need heels. do you have any other heels that are comfortable? Maybe black or silver?
