In some exstreme cases I do understand. However I also know people who always have money for cigarettes but not gifts. Also the same people who go year after year and get all they can exspecting charities to foot their Christmas when a part time job would probly of taken care of it.The fact is I see some who give to the charities from their hearts and so many who just exspect it as a handout. Also what bothers me is when someone gets on and asks for some exspensive video game. Its a handout you take what you get. Please if your family has exspereinced real hard ship dont be offended. There are loads of truly needy people out there. What I am talking about is the greedy types that exspect everyone else to foot the bill.

I agree.. I posted about this a few weeks ago. I don't see how hard it is to save like $10 a paycheck through the year for your kids to have Christmas presents. That's about $250 a year if you are paid bi-weekly.. and that is plenty to buy a few gifts for your kids. I am all for starting early every year because I refuse to stress about shopping and be broke in December. I buy my Christmas wrap and cards in January at 80% off.. and box them up for next year... then I pick up things here and there for people and just stash things away. I love it.. I refuse to go to the mall in December because of the rude people and the crowds. If people wouldn't procrastinate so much, they would be stress free too, and not need to ask for help because they spent all their money during the year on crap like beer and cigarettes. I know people have hardships and lose jobs, homes, etc.. and my heart goes out to those with true hardships.. but the majority of people begging fall into the other category. Best Wishes!

Charities make a habit of calling for donations more than usual at this time of year The food banks need help too Donate some groceries and tell the spmgers their Xmas has gone to more needy people You might have enemies but you will feel better and who needs spongers anyway?

I have lived long enough to see the changes in attitude toward charity by people who were having difficulty supporting themselves and their family.when I was young ,they would do almost anything to keep from going on welfare. They felt ashamed of not being able to make it on their own.
Now , some people actually bragg about not working and collecting money from the government. The won't take entry level jobs because they get more from the Government for not working . they believe they are entitled to it ,Playing the system Is their career and they pass that on to their children..

Great question! In our city I read in the paper that the mayor treated 61 "poor kids" to $100 each shopping spree at Toys R Us. I do not spend that much on each of my children, and that includes clothes! We only buy toys for Christmas and birthdays also, not all year round. My husband has a good job, but I am a stay at home mother with 4 young children-we cut coupons, and buy items only when on sale, unless it is a necessity. I am so tired of seeing people use food stamp debit cards to buy junk food!!! And don't even get me started on our public school system, we are expected to pay for all day kindergarten in our state (Indiana), that costs $1800, and we also have to pay $100-$300 per student depending on grade level for a "book rental fee", and every single week they are selling something for school-we are so tired of it! One of the girls' in my daughters' class has a mother in jail, and this girlgets free lunch, free tuition...

I know exactly what you are talking about. But, you know, when I see a Salvation Army kettle, I know if I put anything it there, that I am 99% sure that it will go to some deserving people. You can't worry about the inconsiderate people who might be taking advantage for their greedy purposes. Just give from your heart and you will be blessed and feel better about yourself. Just think about your tax money!!! You know without a doubt that at least 25% of it is just thrown to the wind.

I agree.... I belong to a freecycle.org group in my area and there's literally 100's of postings asking for "Christmas gifts" some ask for expensive things like gaming systems/ipods and the like.. Freecycle.org is NOT a Christmas shopping list.. It's a site to recycle things that would maybe go into landfill's... I realize that some people simply cannot afford an ipod or gaming system but, to expect one for free?

There are always going to be "needy" people and I think that it's good to help them with the basics shelter, food, clothing but, I draw the line at "luxuries" like ipods, gaming systems and things of that nature.. GET A JOB !

I belong to a sorority and we do philathropies all yr. Our most recent was to cook/serve dinner/dessert to the residents at Ronald McDonald House.. They need and deserve a home cooked meal and it felt good to help out. We also work a church soup kitchen and make desserts. I think that some people DO abuse the system and ruin it for those who truly deserve it. So, choose your charity giving wisely...

Good luck

Yes,it does bother me,I see so much of it in my area,I have helped where I could but its just overwhelming. It is the most awful thing for someone in their 80's to be turned away at the food bank,my heart breaks,I am 60 myself is this what I have to look forward too?I will not always be able to work myself. This year has been especially rough on the heart and mind of me.Thanks for your great question and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Yes, I agree with what you are saying. These people that take advantage of others give charities a bad name.
But I try not to judge people who claim they are having a bad time at Christmas or any other year. I believe that I should just try to help in some way.

It is unfortunate. I donate to a few charities at this time of year.Yes some dishonest people will benefit but if only one truly needed person gets aid it's worth it to me.I try to give to charities that go right to the neediest first. There will always be freeloader in the bunch though.

well I just took some food and 2 new children's gifts to our local inner church.I guess we have 99 families that are in need of gift and food.We live in a Sm town.So why not help them out,Is there any Guarantee that all that I gave or anyone Else went to the needy? No.But I know what I did came from the heart and God would be proud of me so I will just leave it at that!!! Merry Christmas.
