I've had this laptop for about a year previously I owned a toshiba unit which I took out the hard drive that smelled oddly the same.

I have a 17'' macbook pro right now and it smells like a sweaty ***. I bought it brand new so no previous owners it does get alot of use I'd say opproximatly 8-10hrs a day 6 days a week. I can deal with the smell i guess doesn't get bad unless you sniff the keyboard but want to make sure its not a technical issue that could cause malfuction in the future. I will be going on a 2 month trip and using it to back up photos and keep in touch with the world if i can find internet access.

any help would be good

Try Lysol, and wash your hands better after going to the bathroom.

Seriously though, it is an indicator of a little too much heat. Make sure your fans are working correctly and that dust is not building up in you air vents on your laptop case. You might have to take a few things apart and do a little cleaning.

All computers are going to have a slight smell. Most computer manufacturers place the computers odor as about as important as the color of the inside of the case.

Generally, a strong smell indicates a possible electrical failure coming up. But if you have to sniff the keyboard in order to smell it, then it is completely normal.

Turn it off.. slide the clips out that are holding in the keyboard. Look on the back. See the big "instructions" sticker on the bottom? That's the culprit. The glue that's holding it on is causing a reaction when heated. If you can get the sticker off.. you'll be good to go. But, obviously, you have to be careful about how you do it, and what you use to loosen the glue. Good luck. :)

So it smells like gym socks, you're saying? Well, if it gets heavy use, there is a change that germs are on it, and germs can get smelly after a while. Unless you turned the power off with your toes, then that would be the only real reason why the laptop would smell

Its getting close to christmas, buy it a present I suggest some deoderant or some shower gel :-)

But on a more serious note, I suggest you take it to a specialest computer store and see what they say.
