Get some mullein tea from the health food store or online at http://www.iherb.com (not affiliated, just a good site) It is great for everything respiratory. We even used it when my daughter had whooping cough to control the coughing. Great for everything congestion to infection. You steep mullein tea for 5-8 minutes and add a bit of honey. It tastes good too, not nasty like some remedy teas.
Hot teas that help - ginger (you can make your own with 1/4 tsp of ground ginger in a cup of hot water), peppermint, lemon - always add honey since honey has healing benefits too.
Steam is always good, a hot shower does wonders. Also, good old chicken soup (homemade preferably with ginger, thyme and sage). Yes, Mom's chicken soup legend is true, it does help.
Take Vitamin C, yes it really does help. 500 mg at least 2 times daily will help immensely. Vit C is an antiviral. But, you need to take it more than once a day since it is water soluble and your body rids itself of the extra it doesn't need of so.
Vicks will open things up, but you must be careful not to go out in the cold. Warnings about Vicks came out in the 1980s that they were seeing a lot of Vicks induced pneumonia cases. You open things up with Vicks and get things running, and then go out int he cold, making yourself more runny and that all gets into the wide open lungs. Use Vicks as a nighttime releif before bed.
Robitussin PE (only PE - the others have too much stuff in them - no generic is available for PE) It is the only OTC we use other than aspirin. It tastes nasty some think, so chug it down (approx. 2 teaspoons will do the trick for an adult) and then chase it with something strong like grapefruit juice. You can redose every 4 hours or so. How is works is by thinning the mucus to keep it from building up, and keeping it from getting into the lungs. We usually reserve the Robitussin for nighttime comfort.
If you think there may be an infection you are dealing with, get some Grapefruit Seed Extract (not GRAPE but GRAPEFRUIT - they are easily confused). Put 10 drops in about 6 oz. of water, stir and gargle or swallow. This is another that is very strong tasting, so be ready with a chaser. But, it is VERY beneficial as antiyeast and antibacterial.
Finally, cut out all refined sugars! Sugar is an immune suppressant and will make it take longer to get over the virus causing your runny nose.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Try Vicks nasal spray, but remember to only take 2-3 shots in each nostril only every 12 hours. ONLY EVERY 12 HOURS!!!
If you take any more than that it will make it worse. Also try Vicks Vapor Rub, or Benadryl. I have allergies, so that always works for me.

Put a small dab of Vick's on each nostril and steam your face. Also drop salted warm water down each nostril and spit it out. It's gross but really works. Feel better!
