Do indoor plants grow from any light? Or is sunlight different?

Is it just photons that stimulate growth, or is it something else?

For most plants, sunlight is best because natural sunlight has the highest intensity of light in the same region of the spectrum that chlorophyll absorbs light. (No, it's not a coincidence - it's evolution at work.)

If you could find an indoor light that matched the general spectrum of sunlight, that would be the best alternative to having the plant outside.
