You know what I mean, guys who have looked really good to you but you never hear a peep about them (maybe in the city where they play but not nationally).
My picks-
Dustin Brown- LAKings- Watching a couple of the Kings games last week, this kid was flat out the best player on the ice. Throws the weight around a bit too for a guy who isn't overly big. 14 G and 13 A to boot. Coming into his own indeed.
Ryan Kesler-Van- I mean the only time you hear this guys name is "the guy Bobby Clarke tried to steal from Vancouver" but I have been REALLY impressed by his play, especially defensively. Guess Clarke "kind of" knew what he was doing "sometimes."
These 2 are both Americans as well.
Another guy who has impressed me is 19 year old Milan Lucic from Boston, though I have only seen him play a couple of games.
Who are your picks? I don't want to hear guys like Toews or Kane or Stastny, we have all heard about these guys.

See, I don't find that Kopitar, Leclaire or Gagner have really flown under the radar, they are decent choices but I have seen many a question about them on this site alone. Not bad choices though.
I am sure being in Vancouver, you do hear about Kesler, that is why I kind of qualified that in the question.

Yeah, seems to me Richards gets a bit of press but as you say, I am more in tune with that so it could just be me.

Yeah, Lupul gained some fame with a 28 goal season in Anaheim and being part of the Pronger deal and flopping in Edmonton. Plus Mike has him on his fantasy team (which he won't let us forget after the 6 points the other night) LOL

LITY I am disappointed in your answer. You could have at least came up with Patrick Sharp (if he has indeed impressed you at all)- Nobody ON planet earth knows who he is- well I do, but I'm amazing.

Charlie- Jason Frickin Blake? That is a terrible answer considered he had a great season, got his contract money and has been a bust. Plus, everyone knows who he is.....the "bust" guy

I agree with you on Lucic, I have watched a few of Boston's games and he always seems to play well. Given that he is so young I don't think he will fly under the radar forever.
brown really flew under my radar, I had no idea he was doing so well, well on pace for a career year.
Other guys?? With all the Press that Carey Price gets in Montreal, the other rookie Kyle Chipchura has really snuck under the radar. He was worked is way from spare part in the first few games to 4th line to now where he seems to have found a role as the third line center. The point totals 3-5-8 don't reflect his true value. He kills penalties, plays smart positionally and is one of only 5 positive (+/-) guys on the team.
I'm way of the radar here but Mathieu Darche in Tampa has impressed, never drafted on and off waivers but the couple of times I have seen him play this year he has played well. Were not talking all-star here but not bad for a Canadian University player.
Edit: Darche played university hockey at Mcgill bounced around the minors for a few years playing 5 NHL game in Columbus/Nashville and San Jose. Started the year in Tampa was put on waivers then recalled. He now has 4 goals and 4 assists. His only claim to fame is that his brother who played football at Mcgill was the long snapper for the Seattle Seahawks and is now with The Kansas city chiefs. Interesting that both brothers played at a cdn university and made the top level of their sport.

I'm a Maple Leaf Fan *take cover*!
But all loyalties aside, i've found Jason Blake to be an amazing player. If you've watched him, he's got real speed and grit. I know he was a 40 goal scorer last year and he's not exactly unknown with his large signing and terrible bout with cancer. But people have seemed to forget about him. This year he hasn't been putting up the monster goal numbers, but if you watch when he's on the ice, he provides energy with his speed and he's not afraid to crash the net. Although people get on him for taking long shots, they create chances and sometimes even, goals. From what I see, he's going to start getting some bounces and really outdo expectations, though i don't consider him a superstar.

Tim Thomas. This guy gets no respect. He leads the league in SV% and is 6th in GAA. I don't really hear anyone talking about him. Or the Bruins for that matter, who sit in 4th place in the Eastern conference right now.
Also, how about Nikolai Zherdev? This guy had 32 points in 71 games last year, to go along with a -19 rating. This year he is steadily producing the way everyone expected when he first came into the league. He already has 24 points in 31 games.

Not much talk of Paul Ranger. Losing Boyle was really a huge loss for the Lightning. Ranger is starting his 3rd season as a NHL player, has has doubled his scoring compared to 2 years ago. He has more goals so far this year (5 goals in 30 games) than he did the entire last year (4 goals in 72 games). He is a +10 and he is 11th in points for D-men this year. He probably needs to beef up the PIM, but since he is the only candidate that can fill Boyle's shoes, so he needs to be on the ice as much as possible.
Good Question.

well he has not so much flown under the rada for me and i dont know if he counts because he is still plying in the AHL and only played 10 games this season in the NHL and is now back in the AHL but Clarke MacArthur he played 10 games for Buffalo his first game of the season he had the Gamewinner and had 3 goal and an assist he was also really good last season in the NHL when he came up to Buffalo for a short time i think he should have made the roster in Buffalo at the start of the season

I'm a Canuck fan, so Kesler hasn't flown under the radar to me, but he has been the best Canuck forward overall this year, by far. Brown has impressed me too, but it's his linemate Kopitar that really impresses me. This kid has awesome skill. The other 2 that I've seen quite a bit of is Gagne and Cogliano of the Oilers. Both these kids can really fly.
Here's another Canuck to keep your eye on. Alexander Edler. This kid is still a rookie and has really stepped his game up with the injuries the Canucks have had on D. I watched him in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets, and was impressed then, but I never thought he'd improve this much, this fast. He's making Luc Bourdon expendable. Maybe.

Tobias Enstrom is great! I've been watching him a lot lately and he does not play like a rookie.
Nicklas Backstrom seems to be a genuine NHL caliber player. Even when he is not matched with Ovechkin.
Detroit's Hudler is coming along nicely- espcially lately.
I also think Carey Price has turned out o be the real deal.

I know you're a Flyer fan so you are probably more in tune with him, but he rarely gets a mention on TSN or Sportsnet and he is quietly averaging a point a game and leading the Flyers in scoring.
Dustin Brown had a 9 point scoring streal for the Kings going into last night's game - not sure if he scored or not.
