a country club has two swimming pools. the bigger pool has a capacity of 75 more people than the smaller pool. if the combined capacity of the 2 pools is 105 people, how many people can the smaller pool take?

the smaller one can take 15 people, while the bigger one can take 90 people..

105-75=30
30/2=15

15+75=90

Subtract the capacity of the larger pool from the total capacity to get x

105 - 75 = x

Now since half of capacity x is in the larger pool (since the larger pool fits 75 MORE people) you divide by 2 to find the capacity of the smaller pool:

x / 2 = smaller pools capacity

x+75=capacity of larger pool
x+x+75=105
2x+75=105
