If you aren't using your library at your college when you go to do research papers for classes, you are going to get VERY low grades. They are there so you can either rent book sor journals for research, and also reference librarians can help you refine your search to come up with much better materials.

Checking out books. Not only books you may need for school, maybe to learn more on a topic, but also fiction reading. To expand your creativity, and help you escape. Also some libraries have computers, so you can explore the internet also. My library host coffee house poetry nights, and lots of free local concerts. Besides books you can check out DVDs and CDs

They can be used for many things. For people that do not own a computer or don't have access to the Internet, they can use the library's computer to talk to people and search the web! Also for people that can't afford books, the library lets them borrow them and read them for free! and also for research! the library is a free resource and although i never use one many people do !

1. Checking out books-on-CD or books-on-tape, for long road trips. It saves spending $30 to $50 per book from the store.
2. Research (at least at the university libraries). You'd be amazed what's out there in just about any subject you can think of. Internet, you say? Most of the scientific journals are online, but books are not online, and even so you have to pay big fees to read them online. At the library it's free.

I use it everyday as a writer for research. my newest Christian Novel takes place in a court room. So I am using the Black Law Ref. and other books to back up what I write. Nothing like writing something and being wrong Ouch! It is also quiet a great place to write. I spend 6 to 8 hours a day there. After all between writing and sending out stuff to publisher's and coming here my day is shot lol...

The school library is my home! lol I go there to study because you can get a lot of work done because there are no distractions such as computer, video games, beer etc. The library is also a nice place to meet some down to earth ladies.. this is where I go instead of parties.. parties are full of annoying girls typically.

Educating yourself. When I was not working and couldn't afford to go to school, the library was always a great way to keep up my motivation to learn.

obviously for reading books, magazines and news papers. You will find it a must for doing research and using reference books, understanding how books are cataloged by content and type as well as authors, and of course using the Internet.

It used to be for books - fairly obviously!
It used to for reference (now satisfied by the Internet to a large degree!)
Now they are useful for quiet study, prolonged access to detailed texts, and discussion with the librarian or others with specialised knowledge.
And, to return to my starting point, to interesting books to read.
